Building Confident Facilitators at Woman’s Hospital
Challenge
Woman’s Hospital needed to strengthen the facilitation and delivery skills of its internal trainers. While the hospital had subject-matter experts capable of teaching, many lacked formal presentation training or strategies for engaging adult learners. The leadership team wanted trainers to gain practical delivery skills, feel confident in front of groups, and apply proven techniques to improve the effectiveness of their in-house training programs.
Solution
Woman’s Hospital partnered with TrainSMART to design a custom one-day Train-the-Trainer workshop. To make the training relevant, each participant was encouraged to use their content—whether hospital training materials, a personal hobby, or a topic they knew well—to practice and refine their delivery.
The workshop focused on critical facilitation skills, including:
- Presentation skills and instructor-led delivery techniques
- Designing and leading engaging activities
- Questioning, listening, and motivating participants
- Handling challenging situations with confidence
- Adapting to different learner types
- Effective use of slides, visuals, and audio-visual aids
- Managing time, transitions, and room layouts for better flow
The program concluded with each participant delivering a final mini-training presentation. They received personalized coaching and practical resources to continue improving after the session.
Results
By the end of the workshop, Women’s Hospital trainers reported:
- Increased confidence in their presentation and facilitation skills
- Practical strategies to make content more engaging and interactive
- Improved ability to manage classroom dynamics and respond to different learner needs
- Clearer, more visually appealing training slides and resources
- A repeatable process for planning and delivering high-quality training sessions
Impact
Woman’s Hospital now has a team of trainers who are better prepared to deliver engaging, impactful training for staff. By investing in their facilitators, the hospital strengthened both the quality of its internal training programs and the confidence of the professionals delivering them.
One participant summed it up:
“This workshop gave me the tools and confidence to make my training sessions more engaging and effective. I feel better prepared to lead and support our staff.”
