TrainSMART Inc. recently wrapped up a three-day Train-the-Trainer Workshop in Nashville, TN, and it was a rewarding experience working with an incredible group of professionals from diverse industries.

The workshop began with participants from different backgrounds, with varying experience levels and comfort levels with training others. By the end of day three, the room felt less like a group of strangers and more like a learning community. Participants exchanged contact information to keep in touch.

Participants learned not only from the workshop content, but also from one another. The energy, collaboration, and shared commitment to becoming stronger trainers made the three days highly engaging and impactful.

A common theme in participant feedback was:

“It didn’t feel like training… the three days flew by.”

Building Confidence as Trainers

One of the most meaningful outcomes of the workshop was helping participants recognize how much they were already doing well.

Many professionals are asked to train others because they are strong performers, subject matter experts, or experienced team members. However, being knowledgeable and being able to train others effectively are not the same skill.

Throughout the three days, participants explored how to communicate more clearly, organize information more effectively, engage learners, and create training experiences that help people retain and apply what they learn.

As one participant from a multilingual interpreting and training organization shared:

“The TrainSMART training was wonderful in every way. It put everything into perspective for me, and Cindy was an exceptional trainer; I haven’t had a better instructor, not even in college. Her skills are immeasurable. I feel so lucky to have had this in-person opportunity to learn from her.”

Giving Structure to the Training Process

A key part of the workshop focused on helping participants structure how they design and deliver training.

Participants learned practical approaches for organizing content, naming teaching processes, using proven learning models, and creating a stronger connection between what is taught and what learners are expected to do with that information.

One participant from a nationwide high-end retail company noted:

“The naming of teaching processes gave recognition and structure. I’ll use this to develop training for my staff. This program helped me implement communication skills that have become a lost art.”

That reflection captures one of the most important goals of TrainSMART’s Train-the-Trainer Workshop: helping trainers move from informal knowledge-sharing to intentional, structured learning experiences.

Making Learning Stick

During the workshop, participants explored how to engage learners, recognize when learning is not happening, and adjust their approach in the moment.

They also worked with concepts including communication cycles, learning gradients, Bloom’s Taxonomy, adult learning principles, engagement techniques, ADDIE, and Tell3.

These tools help trainers better understand how people learn, where learners may get stuck, and how to design training that supports real behavior change.

A participant from a custom candy manufacturing company shared:

“The communication cycle, learning gradients, and Bloom’s Taxonomy were most useful. I’ll use this to convey my ideas and training more effectively. Excellent teacher, mastery of communication techniques, and new training techniques that are actually useful in the field.”

Another participant from a fire safety organization said:

“The tools including ADDIE and Tell3 were most useful. I’ll be using this information regularly when training and developing materials.”

Reducing the Overwhelm of Creating Training Materials

For many trainers, one of the biggest challenges is not only standing in front of a group. It is knowing how to create training materials that are clear, organized, engaging, and practical.

During the workshop, TrainSMART helped remove the overwhelm from building training materials by sharing tools, templates, and design strategies participants can use immediately.

This included helping participants think through how to organize content, support learner engagement, and create materials that make the training experience easier for both the trainer and the learner.

Applying Train-the-Trainer Skills Across Industries

One of the strengths of this Nashville Train-the-Trainer Workshop was the range of industries represented.

Participants came from organizations involved in interpreting and training, high-end retail, custom candy manufacturing, fire safety, and medical products. While their work environments differed, they shared a common goal: becoming more effective at helping others learn.

A participant from a medical product organization, T.N., RN, shared:

“The information I found most useable is all of it—adult learning principles, engagement techniques, Bloom’s Taxonomy. The facilitator covered everything and provided so many real-world examples. I’ll apply this in my interactions with nurses and during workshops.”

That kind of feedback is especially meaningful because it shows how Train-the-Trainer skills apply across roles, industries, and learning environments.

Why Train-the-Trainer Development Matters

Organizations often rely on internal trainers, managers, subject matter experts, team leads, and experienced employees to teach others. But without the right preparation, and understanding the tools of how to train adults training can become inconsistent, overwhelming, or difficult for learners to apply.

A strong Train-the-Trainer program helps organizations build internal training capability by equipping trainers with the skills to:

  • Communicate clearly
  • Engage learners effectively
  • Structure content with purpose
  • Recognize when learning is not happening
  • Adjust delivery in real time
  • Create practical training materials
  • Apply adult learning principles
  • Make learning easier to retain and use

The result is more confident trainers and more effective learning experiences.

Closing Reflection

It is always inspiring to watch participants realize how much they are already doing right. It is even more rewarding to help them fill in the gaps so they leave stronger, more confident, and fully equipped to train others with excellence.

TrainSMART’s Nashville Train-the-Trainer Workshop was a powerful reminder that great training does not happen by accident. It happens when trainers are given the structure, tools, practice, and confidence to help others learn.
