The request was simple and direct. “We want to have a world-class onboarding program.” The company that made the request is a fast-growing privately held firm that provides staffing solutions for both the manufacturing and property management sectors.
During the past few years, the company has grown both organically and by acquisition. As part of their efforts to create “one company” it wanted to make sure its orientation program was built on best practices.
To create a training framework, TrainSmart first selected ten key best practices established by The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).
With these ten best practices as a foundation, TrainSmart evaluated the current onboarding activities to see how well they complied with best practices.
In areas that missed the mark, TrainSmart provided recommendations on how the company could create the best practice.
To understand the current program, TrainSmart conducted in-depth interviews 12 employees who currently participate in the onboarding training. Also, a review was conducted of more than 30 documents, videos, and eLearning modules.
In addition to the evaluation, TrainSmart provided a step by step plan on how to implement the new program over the next year.
The company established a task force to determine which parts of the plan they felt confident the could implement internally and which part they would partner with TrainSmart. That work will begin in 2018.
