World-Class Onboarding Program Development: TrainSmart’s SHRM-Based Solution
The Challenge
The request was simple and direct. “We want to have a world-class custom employee onboarding program developed by a world-class training vendor. The company that made the request is a fast-growing, privately held firm that provides staffing solutions for both the manufacturing and property management sectors.
Over the past few years, the company has grown both organically and through acquisitions. As part of its efforts to create “one company,” it wanted to ensure its orientation program was built on best practices.
TrainSmart Solution
To create a training framework, TrainSmart first selected 10 key best practices from The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).
With these 10 best practices as a foundation, TrainSmart evaluated the current onboarding activities to assess how well they complied with them.
In areas that missed the mark, TrainSmart provided recommendations on how the company could establish best practices.
To understand the current program, TrainSmart conducted in-depth interviews with 12 employees who currently participate in the onboarding training. Also, a review of more than 30 documents, videos, and eLearning modules was conducted.
In addition to the evaluation, TrainSmart provided a step-by-step plan for implementing the new program over the next year.
The company established a task force to determine which parts of the plan they felt confident they could implement internally and which they would partner with TrainSmart on. That work will begin in 2018.
